The city of Philadelphia has had far too many deaths occur as a result of domestic violence and abuse. In an effort to bring about awareness, Goins is campaigning along with her sister-in-law, Tamla Goins, and minister, Lynette McMillan. The author's recent fiction novel, “A Woman Scorn’d” is a family saga which addresses domestic abuse and rape. Both women proclaim that along with the assistance of minister, Lynette McMillan (a member of Zeta Phi Beta Inc.) they aim to draw immediate attention to this dangerous, yet growing problem that plagues our cities and this entire country.

The month of December begins their campaign. To help increase awareness, Dorothy Goins will devote all her December book signings to pushing silicone wrist bands that will promote our slogan HELP ONE~~SAVE ANOTHER. As stated by Dorothy Goins, "We're using this slogan which Nelly, our niece, came up with in memory of her mother who was a murder victim of domestic violence."

The designated color for the awareness month is Blue. With each purchase of A Woman Scorn'd, Goins will provide readers with a silicone wrist band, encouraging others to speak out against Domestic Violence, Abuse and Rape. Tamla Goins chose this wrist band campaign to get others involved. Her goal is to put together an Awareness Walk that she's striving to be held on July 7th, 2006.

Dorothy Goins has chosen to donate 50% of the proceeds of all her December sales allocated from A Woman Scorn’d to the Women Against Abuse Organization.

This campaign for Awareness is in memory of Tanya Goins, (Tamla's twin sister.) Tanya was murdered on December 30th 2004. She was also the loving mother of three children and employed at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for over three years. Tanya was kidnapped, beaten, stabbed and murdered by her youngest daughter’s father, Michael Allen. Currently Michael Allen is awaiting trial for the murder and kidnapping of Tanya Goins.

On December 30, 2005, a Prayer Vigil will be held at 32nd & Susquehanna in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia in memory of Tanya Goins. We are going back to the location where Tanya was murdered to bring attention to our cause and to promote awareness at the site where this brutal crime took place. We ask that the community join us at this location at 7pm in prayer and unity.

PLEASE HELP US PUSH THIS CAMPAIGN. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TO PREVENT ANOTHER FAMILY FROM LIVING THIS TRAGEDY.
